People Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY: 
 
Designory is seeking a collaborative, critical thinker to join our growing People Operations team, focusing on our fast-paced Chicago office. As a department, People Ops values a “be Human to help Humans” mentality, independence, and communication that is consistent, empathetic, and effective across our diverse employee population. This position will directly support our headquarters in Chicago, IL, but will also have a role in managing employees across North America.
 
The People Operations Manager will be responsible for day-to-day Human Resources activities while carrying out the strategic vision of the team leaders. Core areas include operational processes, oversee recruiting efforts, talent development, conflict resolution, culture cultivation, and staff engagement.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

  • In partnership with the People Operations team, acts as a solution-oriented people leader that is skilled at managing talent, building relationships, creating efficiencies and facilitating an inclusive, trusting environment where employees feel respected, included, and valued.
  • Maintains a fair balance between the needs of the business functions and goals and helps to maintain a satisfied, engaged and productive work staff; liaises with sr. leadership and management to support this balance.
  • Strategic, big thinking partner that uses data to help analyze trends and can translate to actionable process, responses, and actions to better the company and its culture.
  • Acts as a connector between employees and senior management facilitates gap issues while bringing insight and recommendations to senior People Operations leads.
  • Oversees full cycle recruitment of new hires and freelancers including requisitions, approvals, ad placements, networking, interviewing, reference checking, in coordination with recruiter, resource manager and team coordinator to help manage resources efficiently.
  • Manage oversight of administrative and record-keeping functions for the Chicago office in conjunction with the Long Beach office using HRIS tools.
  • Manage People Operations coordinator regarding administrative duties, onboarding/offboarding functions, education of legal/HR policies and procedures, and professional growth/career pathing.
  • Work with Long Beach People Operations to manage, advise and administer performance evaluations, feedback loops, employee check-ins that contribute to career pathing and professional growth.
  • Assist senior management with identifying developmental and training opportunities across staff, making recommendations.
  • Managing onboarding including new hire orientations.
  • Facilitates conflict and issue resolutions while maintaining documentation, understanding legal implications, and escalating concerns or difficult situations to leadership when necessary; occasionally works with legal.
  • Maintaining administration of company policies, procedures and practices, as well as keeping up on industry trends and Federal and State employment legislation compliance.
  • Serves as Cultural Ambassador in to assist in management of office events, diversity and inclusion programs, and employee awards programs.
 
PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Exhibits a high standard of customer service with a flexible, drama free attitude and the ability to shift gears in potentially ambiguous situations
  • Possesses a positive, dependable, approachable demeanor that maintains confidence and trust on all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, plus high EQ/self-awareness with an ability to “read the room” and resolve conflicts successfully
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player with good common sense, solid judgement of character, a strong work ethic and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to build business cases and deliver data-driven insights to continuously improve HR
  • Confident, self-starter who can identify problems, outline solutions and drive execution
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
  • 3+ years of experience in Employee Relations required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides
  • Strong server and database skills 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Human Resource Management experience preferred
  • Marketing/Advertising experience is a plus.
  • BA/BS degree or HR Professional degree is a plus.
  • Interest in Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging is a plus
