People Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Designory is seeking a collaborative, critical thinker to join our growing People Operations team. As a department, People Ops values a “be Human to help Humans” mentality, independence, and communication that is consistent, empathetic, and effective across our diverse employee population. This position will directly support our headquarters in Long Beach, CA, but will also have a role in managing employees across North America.
 
The People Operations Manager will be responsible for day-to-day Human Resources activities while carrying out the strategic vision of the team leaders. Core areas include operational processes, employee relations involving recruiting, culture cultivation, and staff engagement.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

  • Assists the Associate Director with oversight of operational functions including database and software management, personnel files maintenance, and liaison for payroll functions related to onboarding, offboarding, status changes.
  • Assists with reporting and analysis of HRIS information and data.
  • Helps to maintain consistency in the company work structure alignment by assisting with updating org charts and job descriptions for all positions, aligning with managers and team leads.
  • Helps ensure that People Ops is a safe, inclusive place to solve employee relations issues; provides guidance and creates trust amongst employees and People Ops team members.
  • Helps manage conflict and creatively resolve issues to mitigate risk and surfaces employee issues to Associate Director and/or Chief People Officer when appropriate.
  • Participates in fact finding and investigations along with the Associate Director, documenting any employee relations issues and assisting with communications to employees.
  • Builds strong, collaborative relationships with other office teams including DEI, IT, Office Services and Finance, thereby contributing to the overall diverse, inclusive, equitable and enjoyable overall employee experience.
  • Assists with full-cycle recruiting functions when necessary, including administrative duties of onboarding/offboarding.
  • Serves as cultural ambassador/connector in partnership with People Ops team members and DEI representatives, activating social/cultural events, agency parties and celebrations (anniversaries, retirements etc.)
  • Manages employee rewards programs, assists with company swag/merchandise distribution in partnership with People Ops team members and Executive Assistant.
  • Assists team leads with research for various vendors used, projects/software needs, event/activity sourcing.
  • Basic knowledge of employee benefits to back up benefits manager when necessary.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, organizational improvements and new technologies in human resources and talent management.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Cultivates professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies related to the human resources industry.
  • Represents the company at appropriate industry, community and client-facing events.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • HRIS experience is a plus, particularly with SuccessFactors
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
  • 3+ years of experience in Employee Relations required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides
  • Strong server and database skills 
  • Marketing/Advertising experience a plus.
  • BA/BS degree or HR Professional degree is a plus.
  • Interest in Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging is a plus
