Junior Proofreader

JOB SUMMARY:
 
The Jr. Proofreader examines copy in print and digital forms to detect and mark for correction grammatical, typographical and compositional errors. The Jr. Proofreader also provides text quality assurance for static banner ads in multiple languages. As the final checkpoint in the copy creation process, this role ensures brand standards in content tone and terminology/trademark usage.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes a quality-control mindset
  • Cross trains coworkers and new proofreaders on workflow processes
  • Scrutinizes copy and reviews language usage, marking errors or requesting clarification for spelling, punctuation, grammar and use of client-specific terminology
  • Checks for correct copyright/trademark usage and consistency of legal disclaimers
  • Returns marked copy for correction and later checks revised copy against previous file
  • Catalogs files appropriately in the folder structure
  • Adopts a team mentality, building partnerships with project managers, production artists, copywriters, and product specialists
  • Maintains updated nomenclature/terminology guides and provides these guides to the copy department and client for approval as needed
  • Remains current with company news, industry developments, and related technology

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six months of related experience and/or training
  • Strong command of the English language and its anomalies
  • Familiarity with Japanese, French, German and/or Italian is a plus
  • Solid knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Applies consistently sharp attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Shows excellent communication and collaboration
  • Juggles multiple projects accurately and in a fast-paced environment
  • Regularly takes initiative to solve problems and meet deadlines
